Which U.S. Airports Allow Non-Ticketed Friends & Family Members to Go Beyond Security?
Back to the Good Ole Days?

Do you remember the time?

Crazy enough, many of our readers won't actually remember the times when it was totally normal, and even expected for loved ones and friends to accompany you all the way to your gate. Long goodbyes as the plane begins to board and those movie worthy "wait, hold the plane!" moments. The tragic events of September 11th, 2001 put an abrupt halt to this practice as the U.S. Department for Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration began implementing some of the most protective security measures the country had ever seen. Fast forward, more than 20 years later, and it seems as though a return to the good old days is imminent.

Of course, like with any other good thing, there are a couple of important quips to consider. For example, with many programs, the non-ticketed person will have to complete an application ahead of the planned travel date. Even once approved, they will still need to be prepared to present proper identification and go through the same TSA Security Screening as regular passengers. As of now, expedition programs like TSA Pre-check or most often not honored for non-ticketed visitors to the terminal. With proper security measures in place, this could be a lovely return to the travel industry. An opportunity for one last hug, or a kiss goodbye. While not every U.S. Airport has jumped on board, here's a list of the airports where you can currently escort a loved one to their gate, without the need to have a boarding pass of your own.

Orlando International Airport (MCO) has a Visitor Pass Program which allows some access on a limited basis. The pass program requires an application for approval to be completed 7 days in advance and applicants will be notified after midnight on the day of travel.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) allows visitors to obtain a Guest Pass, no more than one a month, and on a first come first serve basis. The airport limits the number of visitors allowed into the terminal each day, and potential visitors must apply online at least 24 hours in advance.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County California, features the OC AirPASS Program. This program requires visitors to check in at terminal A, B, or C and undergo a quick online security screening to gain their pass for that day.

Tulsa International Airport (TUL) asks you to apply here for the TUL Visitor Pass Program within one week of the date of travel. This program requires separate applications for minors visiting the terminal with or without an adult.

Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) may have one of the simplest processes for visitors wanting to obtain a DTW Destination Pass. Simply scan your ID at one of the kiosks in the Departures area to gain all day access.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) has one of the longest standing programs in operation. Simply apply online up to 7 days prior to travel and you'll receive an easy to scan QR code to present for access to the terminal.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is the most recent to jump on board this not so new but returning convenience. Be sure to apply for the PHL Wingmate Pass 1 to 7 days prior to your planned visit.
